In order to support the development of gender policy in the oil, gas, and energy sectors, the KAZENERGY Women’s Energy Club (hereinafter – WEC) was established in 2013. Over this period, six major forums have been held (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023), as well as field sessions at major companies (Tengizchevroil, Embamunaigas, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V., NAC Kazatomprom JSC). The first gender study in Kazakhstan’s energy sector – “The Role of Women in the Energy Sector of Kazakhstan” – was also conducted. In 2024, the Association joined the “Women’s Empowerment Principles” developed in partnership between UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact.
Speakers and moderators of the WEC forums have included the State Secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chair and members of the National Commission on Women’s Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, members of the Senate and Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of state authorities, members of the KAZENERGY Association, as well as national and international experts.
The VI WEC Forum – “EmpowerHER Energy Forum” – was held on October 3, 2023, marking the 10th anniversary of the KAZENERGY Women’s Energy Club. The anniversary event was attended by representatives of government bodies, national and international experts, and executives and specialists of energy companies. Discussions focused on women’s leadership and representation, sustainable development and ESG, the promotion of environmental and social practices, achieving carbon neutrality, decarbonization and the transformation of the energy system, as well as strengthening the role of women in the professional environment and in leadership positions. The Forum also featured a recognition ceremony for women employees of the oil and gas industry and women’s associations of companies.
