Petrochemicals of Tomorrow: Middle Powers’ Role
Amid the ongoing transformation of global energy markets, the petrochemical and gas chemical industries are becoming key drivers of industrial development. These sectors offer opportunities to increase added value, boost exports, and advance technological modernization. Middle powers, with substantial reserves of oil and natural gas, are increasingly developing both petrochemical and gas chemical capacities to secure their place in global value chains.
For Kazakhstan, the development of the petrochemical and gas chemical sector is a strategic priority. Under the direction of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, large-scale projects are being implemented to process hydrocarbons and create a modern petrochemical and gas chemical cluster. These initiatives aim to attract investment, develop high-tech, export-oriented production, and integrate advanced technologies.
This session will explore how middle powers can enhance the competitiveness of their petrochemical and gas chemical industries, the tools that support the sector’s transformation, and avenues for international cooperation. Special attention will be given to localization, ESG standards, decarbonization, digitalization, and workforce development.
