Joanna Kuenssberg joined Royal Dutch Shell plc. in 2018. Joanna began her career in the British Department of Environment. Following a stint managing environment sector programmes in Central Europe in the European Commission, she joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997.

Continuing as an EU expert in the Foreign Office, Joanna worked in London before spending a year advising Hungary’s EU accession team. From there, she moved to Paris, seconded to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the French EU Presidency of 2000, then worked at the British Embassy, Paris.

In subsequent London jobs, she worked on anti-corruption policy, EITI, business and human rights and corporate responsibility issues, as well as consular affairs. She then worked at the British Embassy in Lisbon 2010-14.

From 2014-18, Joanna served as the British High Commissioner to Mozambique. In this role, she led on all aspects of bilateral relations between the UK and Mozambique. As part of this, she worked with British business in support of investment protection, export promotion and business environment improvement.

Joanna holds a BA in Modern Languages (French & Russian) from the University of Oxford.
